My friend does straight law in cardiff. He loves the city but isn't a big fan of the course. that might just be him though so it's all up to you.

Just read lots of prospectusses and go to some open days of the ones you're interested in.

I have been told that the atmosphere at cardiff is great, but a few people have said that the course is good, so it must be down to everyones different opinions, but hope to visit the uni sometime to see what its like.

What would you like to do with the french part would you like to spend a year abroad? If so this would be a major factor in my decision.

I actually did Law and French five years ago at NTU but sadly they have now dropped this course due to lack of interest. The main reason I chose them was because I got to study for a year in the south of France

It all depends on what you want to do whether you would like to do a three or four year course.

Can your college careers advisor point you in the right direction?

I presume you have looked at the various university guides (i.e. Times and Guardian)?

Without a doubt go to open days for the universities you are interested in, will give you much better idea.

I went to Cardiff and studied law and politics. Knew a fair few people who did law and languages. The best part for them was getting to spend a year studying abroad.

The law school is well regarded. It has its own building within the university. While Cardiff isn't a campus university, most of the buildings are very close to each other within the civic centre. In terms of law. You will have lectures once a week per subject with a room of about 100+ people. You will then have tutorials with about 15 people every other week. At tuturials there is homeworkand you are expected to make a contribution in the tuturials. Depending on the subjects you will also have essays to write and an exam at the end of the year. (Note, all of this may have changed since my time there, however I'm sure the university will tell you exactly how the courses will be structured).

In terms of social life Cardiff is a great choice. The union is one of the best in the country and is HUGE!! There is an active social scene. Cardiff itself has loads of bars and clubs and lots of other activities. There is just so much to do there. One thing though, during the holiday period Cardiff does become quite quiet, mainly because many of the students have gone home.

The accomodation the university provides for the first year is of a decent standard. I understand they have expanded Talybont (which is the main accomodation area).

Hope all of this is to help to you.

Big up Cardiff Uni! Currently doing my degree there (english and history) and love it! Nice sized city, friendly atmosphere, good building locations, new residences, incredibly helpful staff - both academic and administrative! W00T W00T! Definately worth a look on an Open Day.

Sheffield is a great city and the people I know that do law here think it's a good course... Don't know anybody who does Law and french though so can't give you an opinion.

It's difficult to advise you properly though - the best thing to do is grab a load of prospectuses to get an idea of the course that each university offers (along with its entry requirements), then shortlist around 10 and visit their open days.

I visited around ten open days (Leeds, Brighton, Bristol, Newcastle, Cardiff, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster and Nottingham) then applied to the six that most impressed me on the day with Sheffield in mind as being my first choice. Luckily on results day I found I'd done what i needed to get in and have loved every second so far of my time here in Sheffield!
