  • Hi there

Footman James are an insurance broker, rather than the actual insurer. Looking at their terms and conditions (http://www.footmanjames.co.uk/terms.aspx), they will only charge £20 for changes or cancellations, which is quite low nowadays.

Their Financial Services Compensation Scheme disclosure needs to be updated in the next 9 days, which is a bit poor considering they've had almost a year to do it.

I'd be tempted to "click through" to their website and see who the insurer is that they are quoting.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

I used (until this year) to have their classic car insurance for 4-odd years - so not sure if relevant or not to you.

They are now (since 18 months?) owned by AON, the world's largest insurance broker - but they did keep their own call centre etc in the West Midlands (or did last time I called). The car insurance itself was issued on a Lloyd's of London lineslip (so multiple syndicates), so FJ would also have administered any claim on your behalf.

They always seemed very efficient, much cheaper price than Lancaster or other classic insurers - literally half. Having said that, I've never made a claim, and that's the real test; but I've no reason to suspect poor service from the interactions I did have.

Not much use I know, but I can at least confirm they are a well-known and reputable firm (not that that implies much these days!). Hope it helps,

    Drew

From my experiences in dealing with them (working for an insurer rather than as a policyholder), I would say that they don't know their !!!! from their elbow. But there you go.

footman are coming up significantly cheaper for me than anyone else at the moment. Searching through the internet they appear to be getting mixed reviews but then so does virtually every other insurance company/broker but many of them are double even treble the price. I may have to just go with the cheapest and keep my fingers crossed I never get into a bump to test them out.

They are a broker not an Insurer, which Insurer are they quoting you with?

Yes I was aware of that. They are quoting with Royal & Sun Alliance for £380. Obviously I thought that I may be able to get even cheaper if I went direct so I visited Royal's website. Unfortunately when I try and click on car insurance there I get forwarded to morethan who quote me over £1400 with the same details. Is there a way to get a direct quote from Royal? The way it looks at the moment is that either MoreThan are taking a huge cut or that Footman are being cheap because they are not very good.

RSA are a broker only insurer. Footman James have a few delegated underwriting schemes with insurers which probably explains the price differential between them and More Than.

I've used footman james previously for classic insurance and have found them excellent to deal with.
