Small Kitchen - colours from Ikea HELP

Options
Hello everyone

We are fitting a new kitchen which will be quite small, and leads out into a dinning room (seperated by wall and wood/glass door. (This is supporting wall which is why we have not removed it.

Is it best to go for real light collour, the ceilings are also quite low so need to try and make it as bright as possible.

We have put a few plans together and will get the kitchen from IKEA.

I was thinking of the light oak (there will be a light oak dining table and brown leather look chairs in dinning room).

We have been having a re-think and are now thinking of going for the White, and black worktop, but a laminate flooring that looks like tiles in maybe a rustic brown sort of colour as think black on the floor will make it too dark. There will also be light oak laminate flooring leading into the kitchen and dinning room.

Sorry for the waffle, but any advise much appreciated. Kitchen is small square shape and does have good size seperate larda cupboard that will have nice door same as kitchen cupboards put on it.

Thanks in advance

Neutral colours will appear to make the room look wider. Dark will draw the walls in. If you are set on laminate flooring in the kitchen have the same throughout kitchen and dining room. Consider moisture resistant flooring and seal the joints in the kitchen area.

  • light colours do tend to make the space feel larger, but its always interesting to add small spots of colour to liven compact rooms up - but this could be done with your bred bin and tea pot!

If you already have light oak laminate elsewhere plus light oak furniture, then I'd keep the kitchen flooring the same. Black and white alone can look very cold and clinical, but the addition of the light oak will really warm it up! For reflecting light and making the room feel larger have some high gloss surfaces - doors, worktops and/ or tiles.

    Hi everyone

Thanks so far for you help with choosing the kitchen.

Right we bought the kitchen from Ikea and have gone for Faktum White but it is more a light cream than white. I will have the light oak on flooring that will flow through to dining room. What colour worktops and tile do you think look good.

With black worktop (patterned) too dark and what colour tile would we go for with it.

    Thanks again for any help
