Diabetes in dogs

I am so worried about my dog. She is (almost) 11 and has been diagnosed as diabetic and we are having difficulty in get her stabilised. Part of the trouble is that she is a funny eater. Unlike "normal" dogs when you put her food down sometimes she will not even sniff at it and then hours later, sometimes in the middle of the night, will gobble it down. With diabetes she has to eat more regularly but much as we tell she she wont listen. She is living with MIL who has just rung to tell me she hasn't eaten again today.
She has had two longish stays at the vets on a drip over the past 3 weeks and if this happens again we are really going to have to consider whether it is right to keep on because of the risk of damage to her kidneys and the fact that it's no life for her really if she keeps getting ill.
I really don't think I can bear the thought of her having to be PTS.

Is this a special food for diabetes, have you tried a variety of foods? Fishy things tend to be pretty smelly and hence desirable, some pets go mad for raw mixes where they can take or leave commercial pet food. Anything that is higher in meat and lower in carbs (cereals/ grains) should be suitable for a diabetic pet but please do check with the nutritionist first.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

MIL is trying everything she can, including literally feeding her by hand :eek:We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0
