Snow covered yellow lines & parking fine

Dont know but I regularly used to park on a flooded double yellow in Glasgow city centre and never once got a ticket. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

From what I've googled it depends on the circs.
If it was blatantly obvious to any reasonable person that parking was not allowed then you won't be able to get off on a technicality.
So a judge would decide whether your actions were reasonable under the circumstances.
If it's blatantly obvious that any reasonable person would be aware of parking restrictions (like the presence of a sign 6 foot above the snow) then you probably won't get off and won't be able to claim any signs above head height were covered.
So yes, I think tickets can be issued.0 -
i succesfully appealed last year for a ticket
i was parked in a permit holders zone
what it really was ,was a long series of pay & display bay where at the end it became a permit zone and i had parked with a P&D ticket
the permit holder writing was covered in snow as was the sign showing the P&D/permit split0 -
This sort of this has been ruled on before and won - the case I remember was double yellows covered in leaves and it was held that the council had a duty to clear the leaves. Given that the whole town wasnt covered in leaves you may get a different outcome with snow.0

As others have said it depends on the circumstances. For a single yellow line there will be small yellow plates at the side of the road showing the times the parking restriction is in force, and as long as one of those is visible from your car (you don't have to be able to read it, just able to see that it is there, you are expected to go over and check what it says if you need to) then that is enough for you to get a ticket if the lines are covered with snow.
Double yellows don't usually have signs and as long as the lines are completely covered you cannot get a ticket, but if there are bits showing through the snow in places and they are visible from your car you could get a ticket.
The above does not apply to lines that are invisible for other reasons (such as worn lines), as the courts/parking appeals adjudicators normally take a dim view of local authorities who fail to maintain them properly - but in snowy conditions they accept that the councils have better things to do (like gritting the roads)0 -

dunno
but yellow lines are there for a reason and parking on them because you think you can get away with it is not on0 -
well funnily enough i saw no traffic wardens today in Edinburgh after a heavy snowfall
i work in a heavilly patrolled area so maybe they dont bother in the snow now0 -
I got a ticket because my car got stuck in the snow on a yellow line.I had to abandon my car as I could not get it out. ANy ideas what I can do they took a photo stating the sign but i told them0

im sure that as far as parking on yellow lines go. If the yellow line is not visable how can you know it is there. A mate of mine got away from a ticket becuase the yellow line had cracks and it was not clear if it was a proper yellow line(it had faded quiet a bit). He also got away from one as the yellow line he had parked on did not have a time plate and so the PCN was not legal.
I had a ticket not too long ago, there was no time plate, not sure if you need one every time. There was no dipped curb and there were soooo many leaves on the floor. I did not notice i parked on a yellow line because it is just one car length long and there is parking spaces after it and before it. I appealed on the basis of not knowing it was a yellow line and the council canceled the ticket.
Hope that helps.0
