Would a 20v charger damage a 19v laptop?

As title really! Purchased a replacement charger for my Asus 1008ha, and although website said it was 19v, it says on the charger 20v. First charger overheated and wouldn't charge laptop, so they sent replacement. Charged okay for a few times, but now won't charge at all. Just wondering if the charger could have caused any damage, or it is just a totally dead battery and a dodgy charger.

Do I have to give company a third attempt at a decent charger, or can I ask for a refund?

Where can I get a charger that actually works?

  • True 20v should not worry the internal supply regulators. The actual voltage might even go down a volt or so. A cheap one might give out over 25v. unregulated.

Then the battery could be faulty, less than a year is normal. 6 month g'tee normally.
Could be the connector - weakest point.
    Chargers from Asus of course.

I've fried a laptop charging circuit by using a slightly overrated charger before so wouldn;t suggest you risk it....

Where did u get the charger from and how much was it,
I just purchased a Universal Laptop charger for my next door neighbour as they couldn't get online to buy one, laptop didn't have any power.
    cost of charger £12.69, does from 15V to 24volts, slider to choose, 8 different connections, 15-19V 4.5amps, 20-24V 4amps.
Had to send the first one back at a whopping £2.14p&p as it didnt work, replacement is working well. bought for a acer laptop.

most electronics made in china. as it only arrived on monday, i cant say how long it will last, but i'm sure my neighbours who's laptop it working on, will tell me.
Guess i could have bought one from maplins, but then it would have cost about £30, and due to the fact my sister bought something similiar from them last year, for £25 and it only worked for 3 months i decided against them, and when we took it back to get it replaced, as she paid for it via credit card, they still needed the receipt even though her records should have still been on the system, so she had to buy another one. never did get her money back on the orginial one.
