Personal plate transferring from old car to new one

I have a personal plate on my current car which I need to transfer to my new one. (Dealer not done this before). My son is buying my current car off me and wants to put a new personal plate on the current car. Anyone know how easy this is to do? Can I go to DVLA office and do this, if so what do I need to take with me?

You can no longer get plate transfers done in person at the DVLA office, the best thing to do is to make any transfers before you sell your vehicle as it can get very complicated when documents are in different names.

But if the tranfer are between father and son it shouldn't be that much of a hassle.

I did the exact same thing last year. We had to go to the main DVLA office in our area and take the log book for each car plus the private reg stuff. It was a bit of a hassle. I couldnt drive my car for a week because of it but that was car tax related.

You need to transfer your reg first onto the new car before your sons otherwise you will lose yours. The people at DVLA were very helpful so im sure you wont have a problem
