I recently used the wrong debit card by mistake over 3 days and found myself £103 overdrawn (the sole and joint cards look exactly the same!). The bank say they didn't put a stop on the card because they have to make a judgement over whether a customer may be facing an emergency and also it isn't them but the retailer that would turn down a payment. For my 3 days being overdrawn they were charging me £75 which they have now halved although I think to pay for the first day would be fair after that I believe the bank were just allowing me to go further into the red to get as much money out of me as possible. It seems to me that now the banks have won in court they will be charging what the hell they like and no one is there to stop them and this is very worrying for the future...who knows how many days they would have let this possible customer "emergency" go on for and how much in bank charges I would have had to pay. I never really believed the banks would have to pay back my charges, the country wasn't at a point in time to sustain that sort of financial pay out but I do think all further bank charges should have been lowered to a percentage of a customers unauthorised overdraft. In this day and age we have no option but to use their facilities and allowing them to charge what they like is setting the scene for future financial misery for far too many people.

Hey, you said how can you not work out which card it is. I gave you an explanation based on a debit card. Let me put it this way, you may do this once but you learn not to do this again. However, I would suggest different PIN numbers for different debit cards cos clearly the wrong PIN number MIGHT have avoided this issue. Furthermore, if it is two identical cards from the bank, they may well be able to order you a new card that has a narrative or either "number 1 account" etc, etc,(info for the OP btw).0
