Don't have wicks in Northern Ireland unfortunately..... Only B&Q & Homebase as far as the big UK DIY Stores go.... And wouldn't expect much from them as B&q one year shipped a load of Mole traps over to Northern Ireland stores... One Problem... No Moles In Ireland0 -
What was even better was that they managed to sell almost 100 of these to NI punters IIRC :rotfl:

Asda in Downpatrick has large bags of rock salt for sale in the main store, not the garage - I didn't look at the price.
I've been using their dishwasher salt to keep my path ice free. It's cheap, more effective than table salt due to its coarse texture and is cleaner than road grit which makes a terrible mess of the floors in the house.0 -

I live in a private cul de sac which is hilly ....... one of the residents rang the ?? council / roads service and we got a box of our own - mind you there have been quite a few cars spotted nicking it - meaning when we really need it there isnt any left!!!!
Similar problem for us, we live on a hill in North Belfast and having tried for a while to get a second grit box near top of our street, we managed to get one (due to the upcoming elections I think the local potential councillers are trying to show some interest)
Both were filled yesterday morning but were empty one hour later and none was actually used in our street, if I spot cars from elsewhere taking it in future I will note the number plate and report them as our street ungritted is a potential deathtrap.

Does the road service or council provide these?!
Road service, I live on a hill which has roads running off it also on hills, we have 3 on this road to cover all our hill (not actually enough) These where refilled before christmas and not since:mad: then I spotted the lorry out yesterday morning;) I got 5 bucket loads of grit and did the entire hill my house is on as other residents lower down are having a worse time than me. By the time I got to the bin at lunch time it was half empty anyway with no grit on our roads, so was obviously taken elsewhere
Road salt and grit is near impossible to get at homebase/B&Q etc.... I hand to resort to building sand for a while:oI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
A gritter lorry was gritting my street (a cul de sac) and surrounding streets around lunchtime today. One of my neighbours must know the driver!0

Had a gritter up our place yesterday morning about 7 never seen one before up here but it was going in tandem with the bin lorry0

For the past several weeks I have also witnessed people "lifting" grit from the boxes in our street. I also live in north Belfast in a street with a extremely steep hill ( literally halfway up the Cavehill ) also 75% are elderly and have carers who called to put them to bed etc. Up until 3 years ago our street would have been gritted now we just have 2 boxes which many of the residents cannot use due to being house ridden so it is up to the younger folk in the street to make sure the road and footpaths are gritted. Today whilst putting in my elderly neighbours bins I noticed a 4x4 which i have seen before taking grit out of one of the boxes "Get the smaller shovel there isnt much in here" was the comment. I was livid and when i made the comment there was elderly people in the various houses beside the grit box and it was needed the reply was " We pay our taxes sweetheart we are entitled to lift this if we want we live in the next street we dont have any grit there" I said see the road service or go buy some out of B&Q. If the box had of been fulli would not have minded but it was near empty. So what will my eldery neighbours do now? They can hardly walk to the next street's box and they sure dont have a nice expensive 4x4 to drive there. Lets hope their carers and district nurses dont have any difficulty in getting up this hill tonight or tomorrow!0
