Does anyone know where to get a bag of Road Salt / Grit in Craigavon / Armagh Area??
Tried B&Q (Nothing but a small bag of water softener salt)
Tried Hombase (Nothing)
Tried Local Hardware Store (Nothing)
Tempted to just pinch some from one of those yellow boxes at the side of the road.... or may have to resort to a bag of Table salt if I can't find anything else

I think you'd be perfectly ok to take a bucketful.
I wish Newry & Mourne would provide some grit, but maybe that's a luxury too far.0 -
They are for residents to use to clear ice, didn't you know?
Yeah I know but there are none in the area where I live. It's a private development of about 80 houses so not high up on the gritters list!! .... I've seen one of those yellow boxes outside a "Local Authority" office though and in a local Housing Executive development hence I'd have to go pinch some!!0 -
I don't think it should be classed as pinching, you're entitled to some of it the same as everyone else. Better to have some than slip and break somethingNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

When I say "Private" I mean none of the houses are owned by the Housing Executive or any Housing Associations.... so don't have the luxury of the local authorities comming out to grit our footpaths or development roads
i.e Most of the Developments around the Highfield Road, Carnreagh, The "Avons" (i.e Avon Ridge, Avonmere, Avondale etc..) are all what I would call "Private" developments... i.e Privately Owned0 -
Gritting is carried out by DRD, not local authorities. You pay your rates, I presume, so therefore you are not pinching if you take from the yellow containers!0

Heard interview on radio yesterday that the road service had put out a message that they were going to leave grit out at the gate of the depot in sprucefield but they seem to have forgot to tell the depot that so it wasn't done and police had to be called as angry homeowners turned up but no Grit... Hundreds of Tonnes in the depot but "Health & Safty" meant people were not allowed into the depot to fill their own Bags/buckets etc....0
