Im assuming you mean you had a fault within a month of purchase. In which case the answer is yes it is Comets responsibility to sort it. From the number of complaints about Comet I have to wonder what sort of training staff actually get.

For what it is worth extended warranties are a bit of a waste of time too !

  • Similar issue was here a couple of days ago - a poster saying he was a Comet rep posted that he would help directly. Why Comet deliberately mislead customers can only be guessed at but its probably company policy to save money by pushing customers off to the manufacturer (with whom you have no contract).

His name was Phil - Personal Message him directly on here and see if you get a response.

Maybe ask him why you are being mislead would you, and then post back the results of his help.

Most of the time it's because the manufacturer also carries out repairs for Comet. While the manufacturer are actually working on Comet's behalf, I guess a lot of staff (and this happens everywhere) don't recognise the difference between that and palming people off to the manufacturer.

Likewise, some customers don't recognise the difference between Comet taking no responsibility and Comet directing them to their repairers.

It should be up to the retailer to deal with the 3rd party and not the consumer. If a company is forcing them to deal with their repairers then they are shirking their responsibilities.

Oh, don't get me wrong, if a customer wants the company to arrange repair for them, then they shouldn't argue. But it is often quicker and easier for the customer to arrange direct via the repairer.

    Hi Funkyfarmgirl

My name's Phil and I'm from Comet.

I was sorry to note the problems that you are having with your laptop.

Acer act as our repair agents and we refer customers to their helpline as issues can usually be resolved quickly this way. However, our stores can do this on the customer's behalf if required.

If you would like to send me an e-mail via the link below with your purchase and repair information, I will look into this for you.

Acer, from experience (used them for business laptops a few years ago), have/had shocking returns and repairs service.
