If you have fruit, then I would use it up cooked as a pudding. There are a lot of fruits like apples, bananas etc that can actually be sliced up and placed on a piece of foil, covered in honey/nuts/crushed up frosties etc and folded into a parcel and baked for 20 mins in the oven. Serve with some vanilla icecream and hey presto a cheap and easy dessert made from something that would have ended up in the bin.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Well I'm still probably amongst the worst, but I am improving thanks to this site and all of you!:o
Yesterday I found half a bag of potatoes sprouting, and 12 oz of mushrooms at the point of going over. The old me would have binned them out, muttering to myself about waste. The new me sliced and sauteed the mushrooms, and cooked and mashed the potatoes, and both are now in the freezer awaiting use.And I would add that I was doing moggins challenge yesterday so I think that deserves double praise :rotfl:
I'm still throwing far too much salad away, and some fruit, but I am looking at ways to reduce this. I only have a fridgefreezer and no possibility (spacewise) of ever having more so storage is tight. But I think with my attitude changing I will get better even if it's tiny steps. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
thanks to everyone...:T .i an hopping by doing an A 4 binder/manual like in moggins manual... to try and organize my household chours and meal planner etc... that that will help me.....as it makes me cringe at the amount of food that i have wasted/thrown out over the years.....as food is so readily available at the supermarkets, you really forget the true value of food.....so i know i will never get away from food waste... but with adding a food waste sheet in my food section... maybe it will highlight where i am going wrong... but i have noticed there is never ever any wate when it comes to the bikkies etc...:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0

I keep a list of the contents of the cupboards and freezers, and cross stuff off as it gets used up. I try not to throw stuff out, but if we do it's fruit usually. Got some soft pears I'm going to put in a jelly this morning. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

I used to throw out a few bits every week, because I would go to the supermarket, buy the same as I always bought, without checking to see what we actually needed.
Now I do a meal plan and a shopping list. - Didn't do so, though, before reading on here.
Its not easy changing habits.0 -
I used to throw a lot of veg out, but these days if I have something on the verge of going over I just pop it into a soup and freeze for lunches.
We get our 5-a-days from a couple of portions of veg with tea, a salad with or as lunch, and fruit juice (although this is quite expensive - any tips on cheaper juice would be nice!! we currently buy Asda's own on the long term price offer of 3 for £2 or whatever it is)0 -
I throw out pastry.I nearly always make too much and think I'll pop that little bit in the fridge to use tomorrow, then ofcourse I dont make anything that needs pastry for ages and its gone nasty.
I know it will freeze but I always think, I'll have to wait for it to thaw ,might as well just fridge it.
Note to self ...Must weigh ingredients for pastry so I dont make extra.0 -
I really cannot remember the last time I threw any food away and if you own a feezer it is not difficult to throw almost nothing away ever!
I keep as much frozen as possible and defrost only what I need for each day. Literally defrosting bread a slice or two at a time, the same with milk, cream, cheese etc
Fruit and veggies that look like they may be past it in a day or so are blanched and sent to the freezer to use later or as last night extra is cooked and complete meals are plated up and popped in the freezer for Mrs MATH to eat when the Mathlettes are at the coast.Life's a beach!
