Using Citicard abroad

I've just left the UK for a few weeks abroad
I'm planning to use my Citicard CC for some purchases (airline tickets, hotels, etc) but i haven't used the card for about 12 months
I have plenty of available credit etc but I have not bought my mobile phone from the UK
I'm just wondering if my card starts to become active, particullarly in forgein countries, will I have any problems

Any card with fraud prevention techniques may block the card if they come across any unusual transactions. You run the risk of not being able to use it if they cannot contact you. Can you not contact them abroad by using the hotel telephone to inform them that you will be using the card in different countries?0

yes this is my plan - but was planning to use the card now, and as it's 2am or so in the UK - was hoping for some advice in the mean time
