Windows taskbar has changed

After a recent windows update my taskbar has changed colour. That doesn't bother me but the tabs that denote which programmes are running are no longer side by side. They are now 'stacked' at the right hand side of the taskbar, just to the left of the clock and static icons.
So now I need to scroll up and down to find progs that are running as only 2 tabs are shown at a time. Does anyone know how to change it back to the tabs being side by side?

Right click the Task Bar and look at the settings there.0

I'd already tried that.
Actually found out that there is a nearly invisible 'fence' which consists of 3 lines of dots that you can slide along the task bar now. Once I'd done that it allowed me to get everything on on line.
Many thanks for trying0
