AA Internet Saver (Issue 1)

I've recently applied to open this account and now need to send a certified copy of my driver's licence. Is it as easy as scanning my photocard, getting it signed at the bank and then posting it to the AA? Many thanks.

This is not in connection with AA, but is a reasonably typical statement from one building society:
We accept copies of documents certified by solicitors, accountants or bank/building society staff. Certified copies must include full name, profession, business address and telephone number for the certifying party. The words "certified true copy" must be written or stamped on the documents, which should then be signed and dated by the certifying party.

Some specify slightly different wording instead of 'Certified True Copy'.

I've sometimes read from other posters that their bank's staff can be unwilling to certify copies as it involves including their full name and address details, which they haven't been happy about... but others haven't had any trouble. I can't really see the objection since it's normally the business address which is asked for, but maybe some are just unwilling to give their full name.

If not possible through your bank, then for a charge the Post Office offers certifying copies as a service (only at selected branches). See:

Personally I've never seen the PO listed by anyone requiring ID as one of the 'suitable' people who can certify -- could be worth you calling the AA to see if they would be, if you can't get it done anywhere else.

Take it to a Halifax branch they are all part of HBOS. I did this with Intelligent Finance.
Also the Post Office do a service which cost £6, I think and you can get up to 3 item certified for that.
  • Thanks folks, will see what my bank can do for me then try the Post Office.

I would never pay to get copies of documents and don't remember the AA being much of a problem in that respect. Some of these accounts require so much proof of identity but usually there is a choice of document, 3 or 4, and yet other
organisations are more flexible. Perhaps you did not have some of the other acceptible documents or have not lived at your address for very long. There was one building society this year that wanted so much I decided not to pursue
    the application.
