In 1 of the newspapers last week and am sure it was the daily star said that people claiming to have tourettes is the new "backache" and "depression" excuse. I hope people that dont have this and claim for benefits get caught out and get nothing.
So this got me thinking and was wondering For the genuine people that do have this what sorta benefits would they be entitled to?

I get really annoyed about this kind of attitude in the press. If you read about Tourettes you will see that it can be a very disabling illness. Whether or not it is of physical or mental origin it will prevent people doing many of the things others take for granted and it may well be that in chronic and severe cases the tic is so bad and the vocal effects so distressing that there is a need for care from another person during the day. This would therefore lead to a genuine and necessary claim for DLA.
If through no fault of your own you are obliged to ask someone else to wash you, help you go to the toilet, feed you, dress you and assist with your commication would you like this?
People who are so disabled they need someone to wipe their bums aren't happy with this situation either but just have to put up with it. But getting someone to wipe your bum and put food in your mouth, costs money and DLA is there to help with the extra costs of disability.
Rather than query whether or not it is right that people who need extra care from another person should get help from the state it would be more constructive to ask why, year on year we have more mental and physical illness?
Perhaps if we paid more attention to the quality of the food we eat, particularly the diet of pregnant and nursing mothers, who generally speaking are both vitamin d and omega 3 deficient, we may find that providing the essential ingredients for brain development means babies are born with the potential for a more precocious development and are less likely to be born with or develop disabilities. My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Some people with Tourette's lead full and enjoyable lives, are in employment and don't need financial support from the state; others do. As with all health conditions there are degrees of difficulty.
I suspect anyone presenting at a GPs with pseudo Tourettes would be referred for a second opininion, this being a quite rare condition which the average GP may never come across during the course of their career. Frauds wouldn't find it easy to pull the wool over a psychiatrists eyes.0 -
And of course the Daily Rags have up to the minute statistics relating to the information provided on peoples med certs for the purpose of claiming IB/IS/DLA!!! This is nonsense, where did the daily bs get this info from??
I have to say though I dont see what interest it is so some-one who doesn't have a disability to want to know what benefits a person with a disability would get. It seems that these days, peolpe are more concerned with what sew and so gets, when really is it any of your business. Please dont take that the wrong way AberdeenLad, i'm merely pointing out that if some-one has a genuine illness, and is recieving support from the govt for that illness what concern is it how much they get??
People need to keep their own path clean- and not believe the gutter press....RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.
