Please help - awful skin at the moment!

Hi, I'm 27 and never really had problems with my skin until about 3 months ago where I started getting spots and now getting them about every other day. They're particularly bad on my chin and because I'm naughty and pick them, they've left red scars. I've tried everything I can think of - started with Dermalogica after I had a facial there but that's not working so am now back to Liz Earle. I have started a course of microdermabrasion but that's really just for the scars.
I've read that spots on the chin can be hormone related so I've started taking Evening Primrose Oil tablets to try and regulate that.(although the spots can also be on my cheek)
I've not changed my diet recently or been significantly stressed.
This is really getting me down, my face looks awful without make-up on and I just can't think what's causing it so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Fluffy, you need to go to your docotors. He will either give you antibiotics or maybe put you on the pill/change your pill.0

my skin has been the same over the past couple months. i think mine was down to me not taking the pill for a couple weeks and the coldness. The spots are going away slowly but the red marks/scars arent budging! would love someone to give their advice on this too0

Hi, I'm 28 and have the same problem at the minute, I'm putting it down to the severe change in weather (being in a central heated room does me no favours either) I get like this every year so don't worry about them, if I'm anything to go by they will clear up soon enough. Oh and a 'tip' is to place a bowl of water on your window ledge over the radiator this adds more moisture to the room.Married 1st October 2015:heartpuls

Fantastic advice here. hope this helps. I have found this site invaluable xx
You have got to start treating your skin with care!
Less is more, stop scrubbing with exfoliators, be gentle.:money: Martin Lewis Rocks!:money:0 -
don't use anything harsh for acne or oily skin, as it will strip the skin making it produce more oil leading to more spots. Keep your routine and products simple, i've been using liz earl recently. i also get left with a dark red mark that takes ages to fade. Mineral makeup might help clear the spots. benefits boing concealer is the best and estee lauder double wear foundation really covers well, apply it with a brush. i had several creams from the doctors years ago but found them to harsh.0

You can get some cream from the chemist, it is cheap & effective
... to be honest not all expensive creams or routines work as well as you would expect, i would pop to the doctors.

Hey- I have similar problems!
I am 28 and I am going through what seems to be an off skin patch. Though unlike you I have been trying various skin creams as I was unable to afford the one I really wanted (I caved in and bought it last week!!)
I did though find that garnier on the spot roll on very good. But DO NOT PICK! I don't find that easy either but try to think about it like this: you've bought a product, your trying to test to see if it works. If you pick the spots, you will not be able to test it properly. I apply it and in about 1-2 days the spot is gone or speedily on its way out. But you do have to apply twice a day, you can apply more if you want. It doesn't hurt (unless you've picked in which case it can sting a little).
Just a random question- do you have any other symptoms? like very painful periods, hair acting differently (ie more gresier) or lack of sleep? it could be something else and the spots are just another symptom. Its worth seeing your doctor about them
I also find that drinking enough water and eating enough fresh fruit makes a difference. People say it doesn't but it works for me- maybe its simply that my body is able to get rid of toxins a lot faster as a result. Either way I'd recommend upping your fresh fruit intake and say that you can always add to whatevert you eat- even if its 5 a day. It may be that your body just needs an extra boost at this time of the year.0 -
Hi I had the same problem as you and i was a picker as well i'm afraid i tried just about everything now i use clearasil ultra deep pore treatment scrub and i can honestly say i haven't looked back use it once in the morning then at night not a spot for 18months. I know how you feel it started getting me down as i never suffered as a teenager this started in my early 30's hope this helps0

Don't pick!!! Picking not only leaves you with a big red blotch on your face for days afterwards, but in many cases, it doesn't even stop the spot! Itr either pushes some of the bacteria into your face further, or new bacteria comes along and fills the hole thats left!
I know its hard, but it will go away if you apply a treatment to both dry out the spot and deal with any bacteria or excess skin oils. It makes such a difference. I used to only pick despite the scars already left on my face by an over-reative parent (I used to get spots when I was about 8) and think this year I have learnt that they can and do go away- vanish to NOTHING it you just do nothing after applying something to treat them.- Just try it to see before you knock it!0 -
If you've never had acne before then it strongly suggests a hormone imbalance is the root of the problem and I'd make an appointment with your GP. In the meantime you could use Quinoderm cream on the individual eruptions applied with a Q-Tip at night to dry them up. During the daytime you could try tea-tree oil which is a natural antiseptic. PLEASE try and resist the temptation to meddle with them; as previously advised you can introduce further infection and risk scarring if you're not careful. A hot compress or a mask of Fullers Earth made with hot water can encourage the spots to come to a head more quickly so you can treat them with the Qunioderm and tea-tree oil.
As an acne sufferer myself many moons ago it took me a very long time to realise that the sufferer is much more acutely aware of the acne than anyone else around them.0
