Pulling sickies at work..

I once got a 10% payrise for a low-level of sickness. Sometimes it is recognised that you are reliable, but not very often.0

With regards to AL are those terms stipulated in your T&C of employment? Speak to ACAS if you need sound advice as you are entitled to leave which is suitable to your needs. If you had a wedding in Australia in December it would be unreasonable and hard-hearted not to let you attend. Is your boss scrooge?
I work for a well known book store. There is no holiday at all allowed in November, December and January. One of the members of the staff had a wedding to go to and she could not go.
We are at work today and have to get the sale stuff ready for Boxing Day. The store closes at 5pm but we have been told we will have to work until the sale stuff is ready - boss estimates it will be between 7 and 8pm! Christmas Day off and then back on Boxing Day at 8.30am!!!! The spirit of Christmas does not exist for this company.
Staff are going away tonight and some have upto 5 hours of driving to do but are not allowed to go any earlier. Everyone working today has to stay regardless of what time they usually finish (some finish at 2pm or 3pm). Just as well none of us have relatives abroad that we want to see as you would not even be allowed to leave to catch a flight. Anyway you have to be back for Boxing Day so no point.
Sometimes I hate working in retailThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I remember taking my birthday off 16 years ago. I hated my job and thought "I'm not spending my birthday in that cruddy place"
Only other time I've thrown what could be called a "sickie" was 9 years ago when I called up my boss and said I wouldn't be in for a couple of days (I was too fed up to go in). She just said okay - see you in a couple of days."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
