Help please! Problem with Blinkx Beats

Options
Hi Guys,

Yesterday my husband was on my laptop, when I got it back I found he'd accidentally downloaded a few things - hotbar, shopper reports and Blinkx Beats. I've managed to get rid of the first two, but Blinx Beats is very persistent!

I've tried Add/remove programs, searching the C drive and removing what I found, also I ran Spybot Search and Destroy and Malware Bytes, they both found stuff not the Blinkx

What happens is after about 10 secs of being idle, it's launching as a screensaver and showing youtube style videos. I've just changed the screensaver back to 'blank' via the control panel, but ideally I want rid of it altogether.

Can anyone help please? :)

    Have you checked:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Where did you download MMB from? Did you run a FULL scan (not just a quick). ;)

Also thanks for helping me :)

Given that this was installed yesterday, have you tried a system restore? Saved my bacon many a time;)

    1. Log on to Windows as Administrator.
    2. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
    3. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
    4. On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Re. 4, you might want to roll back a couple of days.

Unfortunately not, I've already checked but I didn't have it turned on. I could have cried when I realised!

I downloaded the malware bytes from a link Browntoa gave in a different thread, yes it was a full scan.

    :)

Did you say Blinx was not visible in Add/Remove? Is it available as an entry in the XP Startup menu/Programs?

Yep, and I've also banned my husband from the laptop! Stupid man, managing to download 3 viruses in the space of an hour!
