Hi
I was made redundant on the 16th of december 2009 due to my company going into administration. They wont be providing any redundancy money and instead i will have to make a claim through the government. I was wondering if i start claiming for jobseekers allowance now, would i still be able to make a make for that redundancy payout?
Thanks

Absolutely
But your priority is to claim for jobseekers allowance immediately.
Provided you have sufficient NI contributions (which seems to be the case as you must have worked for at least two years at your company to be eligible for redundancy payments), you should be able to claim contribution based jsa.
This is paid irrespective of savings, redundancy payments, PILON, or other income including your partners and will be paid for 6 months, however, after that period the benefit is means tested.
It will be unlikely that you will get any payments before Christmas, however, if you claim now, you will at least set the ball in motion.0 -
You should claim from your date of redundancy. Might be able to claim council tax benefit as well providing your savings dont exceed £16k. (it takes about 6 weeks to process) although JSA is much quicker.:smileyhea0

just a added question after the 6 months of jsa (contribution based). I know you are then mean tested and to get the full amount you must have savings under £5500. But is this per person. so for example could my wife have £5500 in her name and me have £5500 in my name?Mortgage Start jun 2007 £88500 Outstanding Balance £51000
Overpayments 2007 Nil 2008 £1040 2009 £7853 2010 £10000 2011 aiming for £18000 (6k so far)
