Hi there, first time poster long time lurker! Hope this is the right place for this post.
We booked a wedding venue back in the summer of this year. The wedding is due to happen winter next year.
We have just been contacted by the venue who have said that the hotel has changed owners. They are now demanding that we repay any money that had previously been paid to the old owners.
Thankfully, this is just our deposit and in fact, being over £100, the hotel has asked us to reclaim it from the credit card company in order to pay them again.
This seems crooked to me. Is it not that when a business is sold, debt is transferred - surely this also goes for assets/credits?
Are they trying their luck?

Impossible to know.
The fact they are telling you to reclaim it from the credit card suggests to me that the old owners went bust and they bought the premises and certain aspects of the company rather than the whole business including its assets/liabilities.0 -
What you need to be clear about is whether the new outfit bought the old business - in which case they remain contracted to you - or whether the new outfit just bought the physical assets of the hotel - in which case the new hotel ought to be able to tell you where the old owners went.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I would go and see them, as they may not be running the place as you want, and the terms of your first booking may not be met.0

How much was it?
I'd be tempted to find a new venue on principal, unless they come up with a very good explanation.0 -
If your credit card will give you the money back then it won't really matter I suppose.0
