Advice on delivery issue?

Im a bit confused as iv never had any issues like this so thought this would be a good place to start.
I ordered a pair of slippers from Tesco online monday last week, and when checking the tracker thing today, found that according to Hermes the courier company, they delivered to my porch wednesday. I have no parcel, have no indication that the parcel was delivered? The porch is like a buffer between our front door and the door is sometimes left ajar so chances are someone could have walked past, seen the parcel and taken it.
Now is it Hermes fault for not ensuring it was delivered to a person by just leaving it in the porch when i didnt specify in the delivery details for them to do that?
Iv called Tesco and they are gonna get back to me in the morning when they get an email back from Hermes, but it would be good to know where i stand on this as he said i may have to re-order the item, so would i have to pay again?
Many thanks

It may not be Hermes' fault, depending on wether or nor their contract with Tesco requires that they obtain a signature. The main thing is, it is NOT your fault. You have paid for an item that you have not received, and Tesco will be unable to prove otherwise. You need to ask Tesco to resend the item or refund your money, whichever is your preference. Don't let them fob you off with saying that they need to speak to the delivery company - that's their problem, not yours!0
