LCD Telly trouble

A very thin blue line has appeared on my Sony Bravia telly right down the middle. Bought the telly from Argos 29 November 2007 and yes it is out of its 12 months warranty. Also, I cannot for the life of me find the receipt but I did pay by credit card and have that.
Been intouch with Argos and they say that it is out of warranty which I knew. But, that said that if I payed for someone to make a report on the fault then they would look into the matter. I really cannot afford to pay for someone to look at it but, then again I cannot afford a new telly either.
Been intouch with Sony with no response at all.
Had a look online about the fault and basically they say that it is broke, that one of the solders are damaged.
They telly was over £600s a lot of money for two and a bit years.

You have no choice, the law states that as the TV is over 6 months old then the onus is on the consumer to prove that it has an inherent fault. Argos are quite right, you'll need an expert, ie, a TV repair engineer out to diagnose the fault and provide a report.0

If it proves to be an inherent fault you can claim the cost of the engineers report back from Argos I believe0

My Sony Bravia has exactly the same fault. It appeared when the TV was just over a year old. Mine was purchased in August 2006.0

Did they tell you what the problem was?
I have asked Argos to send me a copy of my receipt. Then I will try to find a tv repair bloke that will give me a written diog.
The trouble is that the ones I have phone want to take the telly away and I really dont want that to happen because I watched that thing on watchdog about dodgy repair men. Even the one sony recommend said that they will have to take it away first before they can even say what the problem is. Isnt it awful when you cannot trust anyone or want to risk trusting someone..0
