Refund problems

Options
Just wondered what you all think about this?

A certain company who I'm due a refund from, and it's overdue, has just emailed my to say they are 'experiencing a problem with their new payment system' and would I be happy with a cheque instead?
I don't know what to do - either way my payment will be delayed as a cheque may not arrive until after christmas then will take up to another ten days to clear...... do they have to refund by the same payment method as the purchase?

I'd take the cheque if it means you'll get the refund.

If they are experiencing a prblem with the new payment system, go for it
you may have to wait a fortnight till its mended.................

Go for the cheque. At least it'll be there in your hand.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Thanks both :)
  • Ask them to send the cheque via special delivery.

If you paid by card then yes they must refund by the payment method. It always concerns me when I hear this issue. If they can take card payments they can refund them to! And it is quicker, once processed the money is yours, if you are happy to accept a cheque that's your choice.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

Forgot to add, are you confident the company is solvent?

  • I did wonder that Hippey, if they have to refund by the same method by law...and I have to say it rang alarm bells that they should suddenly have a 'new system' they are 'having trouble with', so no, I would most certainly not be happy with a cheque to be honest - I can just imagine the 'cheque's in the post' scenario.. I might phone Trading Standards in the morning...
I have no idea if they're solvent.

It's not law, but is a requirement in the card processing t&c as none compliance can result in a chargeback. Good luck.
