Draughty windows

Options
I have old sash windows which are hellish draughty, I've fitted draught excluder strips but it makes no difference cos of the gaps at the ends... where can I get that window cling-film stuff you shrink to fit with a hair-dryer? Has it got a special name? I'm b***** freezing! :(

This one - http://www.focusdiy.co.uk/invt/119351 - I realise FOCUS are out of stock but you can get the same stuff on ebay and other places. Once you have the name you can search for places locally you can get it.

Oooh thank you both, that's nice & cheap too, I thought it'd be more. I'm off to check Wilkinsons!! :)

McKneff - if only you could see how many layers & blankets I have on, and that's with the radiators on! Draughty old basement properties are lovely & cool all summer... lol!! :D

Secondary glazing isn't the solution to draughts.

You need to block the holes themselves. This can easily be done with kitchen clingfilm- stick it into the gaps with a blunt knife. It's invisible but stops the draughts.
  • Thanks for the tip gmgmgm, great idea... I think I'll try both actually :)
  • gmgmgm... you my friend are an absolute star! Thankyou for the tip, I've just cling-filmed my windows - I didn't realise just how big the gaps in the middle were - no wonder it was draughty! Many thanks :)

I second that lucky! Thanks gmgmgm - I've just done a "trial" window with cling film - what a difference! I'm off to do the rest now!

Maybe install some blinds, that helps a lot.
    Kind Regards
