I'm clutching at straws here...could you hire a waistcoat to go over the top and leave a few of the buttons undone?

How about getting an ordinary white shirt and adding a piece of lace as a jabot?

why cant the hire shop get you another one if your hiring it.. when i got married my nephew said he would wear a kilt as long as he didnt have to wear a fluffy shirt lol so we arranged with the hire shop to give him a ordinary shirt.. when they went to pick it up on the friday lo and be hold but they gave him a fluffy shirt. got on the phone and they exchanged it there and then.. so why cant your hire shop do the same and give your son a bigger shirt if today was only a fitting

Could you get a "unisex" white shirt/blouse?

how about ebay? It might only be a plain white shirt though....if there are no bids on one you could always email them to ask for a buy it now price and explain you'd need next day delivery?
