What size does your Astra need?
Might be able to suggest some alternatives using the prices you have as a bench mark.honestjohn_forum_post wrote:The only kwik fit own brand tyre I had experience of were the arrowspeed ones they did several years ago. Utterly appalling in the wet, almost dangerous they had so little grip. I had michelin after that, about £60 a corner in 175/70s and they were pretty good.
Quick search on the 'net and the Chinese Primewells have more mixed reviews.
If your keeping the car long enough the probably more expensive to buy Michelin Pilot primacy HP make up for their higher price tag by lasting a very long time and giving good all round performance. Long life and good performance don't usually come together.0 -
For that price you can get a decent brand for sure - I'd go Michelin. Budgets arn't so great usually - but you could get them from about £40 each if you looked around if you really wanted. For the saving you get with budgets spread out over say the 3-4 years they last its not worth it really.
Check Internet prices for delivered and fitted tyres.0 -
Unless your Astra is on extremely low profiles, i'd expect to get good quality tyres for little more than the prices you are being quoted.
And i wouldn't put Chinese ditchfinders on if you paid me.
Have a nose round on Camskills or Mytyres for alternatives....Mytyres usually more expensive though not always (small delivery charge from Camskills) but you can link through to the Tyretest site from there to see what users think of the tyre of choice.
I'd be thinking along the lines of good quality but reasonably priced tyres from the likes of Vredestein, Toyo, Avon etc...but there are many others equally as good.
Small anecdote here...i drive a car transporter, had to put 10 large RWD German prestige used cars on a couple of weeks ago in the wet, one particular car kept spinning out and i struggled to get it on at all where the others romped on no problem...Wanli's on a car still worth over £20K, and it showed.0 -
The size is 205/50/16/V/870

These are one of the best tyres around, consistently score the highest places in various tyre tests...good value too.
You'll have to get someone to fit them of course.

OK £61.81 buys you a (Japanese) Falken 452 which if you cruise around the car forums is highly rated by performance car drivers:

Don't worroy about the W instead of V, that's a speed rating W being higher than V so you'll be OK with these. You would need to pay for fitting.
Another Falken which is decent enough under £52

You migh find Falkens more locally.
Kumho KH31 £48.40 get good feedback but other cheaper Kumho's not so good

Another that get good reports elsewhere:

Edit: after seeing previous post, Sportrac and Ultrac both v. good0 -
Arrowspeed is QuickSh*ts own brand budget tyre. Wears out extremely quickly ! It's more cost effective to pay a bit more and get a better 'cheap' brand e.g Marshall, Courier, Barum, Toyo CF1. Try the online sites (you can get them fitted locally included in the price) e.g. MyTyres, Blackcircles, Valuetyres.0

I have KH31s on the front of my car and they're good for the price.
I recommend to the OP that you try small independent tire places instead of the big franchises - you might find you'll get mid range tires for pennies more than the ditchfinders.0 -

One thing no one has mentioned is just because you find the tyres on mytyres / camskill you will normaly find it cheaper to call the tyre place direct and get a price off them (cut out the middle man)If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
