Credit card debt

in Credit cards
I got in trouble with an HSBC credit card when i gave up working due to being diagnosed with an incurable disability. The amount i was left owing on the card including the interest and non payment charges came to £1,800. Even though i was on Disability Allowance i made an agreement with the debt agency to pay £20.00 per month. Now i have received a letter saying that the agreement has expired and they are requesting that i now pay more per month. How can i avoid this when on benefits because i cant really afford the £20.00 per month as it is but they wouldnt accept any less at the time. In reality, i can only afford to pay £10.00 per month but even though they know i am on benefits they are refusing to accept less than £20.00 per month.
Is there anyone out there who can give me some good advice as to what to tell them so they do not take it to court.

Have you submitted them a Statement Of Affairs (SOA)? If not, do so. If you are able, I would continue paying the current £20pm regardless of what they say. Whatever you do, do not have a break in your payments.0
