    Hi
First of all I would go here to see what speed you can get, just enter your phone number, and see what it says.

    That looks poor.

For £15 a month you could join Eclipse instead on the Evolution 4 package. It's an "upto" 8Mbps "unlimited" service.

I'm about 1-2km away from the exchange and get around 1-2Mbps during peak hours and anything up to 5-6Mbps in the late evening/early morning. My upload/upstream speed is always constant at around 368Kbps.

With this service though (and others like it) your speeds can depend upon a lot of things. As it's a cheaper service I get less priority over people paying for the more expensive services. I generally find it to be fine though.

I think a lot of services are struggling at the moment. Since the switch the MaxDsl (up to 8Mbps speeds) a lot of ISP's have been having problems, even some of the more reputable ones.

I am with tiscali, paying £12.98 and on 1mg

    Downstream: 968.1 Kbps (0.9 Mbps)
    Upstream :245.8 Kbps 9=0.2 Mbps)

So I am going quite a lot faster than you for the same price

    Hi
Arrhh well, now thats the million dollar question, not me, I get 30gb on peak, 300gb off peak, up to 8mb speed, for £19.99, which I'm happy with, but No, not unlimited.

Be have an FUP too, although they don't state an actual figure. I think it's just if you download an amount they see excessive, then you'll be in breach of the FUP.

tiscali unlimited here, never yet been pulled up for excessive downloads :)

generally speaking, if your isp states "unlimited", you really really have to hit them hard month after month to p*ss them off (at least in my experience. maybe tiscali are just real nice to me).

  • there is a little tip to alter the tcp/ip receive window which would increas your speeds. not by much but it does work. it involves changing a file installed with mr gates' xp.
  • would help if i posted the link
    so here it is
    http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads

download the english version and please please READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
this patch only works for those with service pack 2 installed. if you have sp1 then there is no limit. however sp2 has its limit set to 10. alter this to 50 with the above download. but like i said above READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
