Last Known Good Configuration? So, what happens? Does it attempt to fix? Error message(s)?ive tried all f8 settingsits completley broke now?
Not necessarily hardware-wise, no; if the OS is indeed 'damaged' then can this be fixed :cool:0 -
last known configuration, just restarts itself again!0

You will need a WinXP CD for sure or the Dell discs. Can the Dell Diagnostic files be downloaded?0

although people always have a moan when this is suggested the reason for suggesting it is diagnostic at the moment,
if you have a DVD/CD burner on another computer i would download and burn of ubuntu (9.04 would be recommended by me as it is a bit more mature than 9.10) you can then set your bios to boot from CD and use it via 'live cd' mode this in itself should allow you to work out if it is a hardware fault or a software fault as the entire operating system works from the CD and your RAM,
if this works with no problems you can be safe to bet it is a case of windows rot where you will need to either reinstall windows (if you have the disks) or to go the whole hog and install ubuntu - if it doesnt work it will more than likely be a hardware failureDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save

20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -

Is booting into Safe Mode an option? What happens when you try that?0 -
just one more thing if you do go down the ubuntu route, you must as ever, remember to back up any and all important documents if you can
if your system works with live cd you should be able to see all/most of your files on you hard drive and it would be worth while if you have a spare hard drive to copy these across
i would personally do this which ever route you have to go down if you do not have any copies already - which is another major bonus of at least trying the live cd routeDrop a brand challenge

Ive got a Dell XP OEM CD, I wonder what the legalities are in ripping and passing on the ISO image though

So long as you each have your own Windows Product Key, and it's the correct CD for the OP's machine, I don't see a problem.0
