Rent Arrears from previous property

How can you owe for five months rent arrears which you say accumulated after you had vacated the property, when you also say new tenants moved in two weeks after you left? On what grounds did the landlord ask you to move out for new tenants to move in, if not for arrears? Did you not hand in your one month's notice and/ or the landlord serve you with notice to quit?
OP left & partner stayed & did not pay0 -
If you owe rent, then pay it.
If you broke the toilet, then pay for it.
If there's no inventory, then they can't charge you for the carpets if they can't prove the condition they were in when you moved in.
Just write to the LL (recorded delivery) sending a cheque for rent owed, cost of toilet, minus deposit she/he already has, and then say that as the carpets were in satisfactory condition when you moved in, she cannot charge you for these.
As for the charges for rent owed, it does seem steep, but she has been out of pocket for a LONG time, so perhaps it's fair to pay that too?
As someone else has said, a landlord is not a bank.
If you pay the above monies that you owe, then perhaps the LL will forget about the carpet and drop it, being grateful for the money they've now received.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Spoken to LL again, over a month ago, I asked for receipts again for anything thats been replaced... still not heard anything...0

Your first step is to find out about where the original deposit is held, if anywhere. This is important.
Second is to contact the original letting agents and the landlord and ask for a copy of the check-in inventory, if any.
Once you have answers to those two points the question about carpets and anything else might be easier to answer. Until you do that, everyone else on here is floundering around in the dark, In the meantime you must pay whatever rent is outstanding (bar the deposit) right now or make an undertaking to do so.0 -
I've asked my ex to dig out the paperwork, will have more info in next few days... I've put money aside for repayment, just have got nowhere to send it too..0
