Metric Conversion Factor

Trying to get my head around the 'Metric Conversion Factor' on the gas meter. Our meter measures in 'cuft' and on the bills it says to convert to 'm3' you have to multiply by 2.83.

So 1 cuft x 2.83 = 2.83cubic metres ???

Thought a foot was smaller than a metre - or am I missing the point ??

Should it not be:- 1m3 = 2.83 cuft ???

Anyone care to explain !!!!!

One unit on an imperial meter is 100 cubic feet. So 100 cubic feet = 2.83 cubic metres.

The easy way to work it out is each gas unit on your Imperial(cubic feet) meter is approx 31.5kWh.

The meter measures in 100 cubic feet, not 1 cubic feet.
    1 cubic ft = 1 ft x 1 ft x 1 ft
    = .3048 m x .3048 m x .3048 m
    = 0.02832 cubic meter

    100 cubic ft = 2.832 cubic m
