Canon printing con?

As for using "non Canon" cartridges this can be fraught with problems.
We have a Canon i550 printer and have tried respectable compatible cartridges. Makes we know work on other printers (e.g. in our Epson & Samsung). They don't work in the Canon. Many others have posted that compatibles don't work on Canon printers.
Maybe you'll get lucky.0 -
If you mostly doing B/W you're better of getting a cheaping 2nd hand laserjet printer of ebay and also stocking up of toners.
I've got a HP Laserjet 5, is a workhorse designed for a small office, you can get them of ebay for around £40, toners £20.
Basic lasers are quite cheap to buy new (you can get them for little over £50). Granted the cheapest ones are unlikely to be of the same build quality as something like a HP Laserjet 5. But if the imaging drum or something needs replacing on a used model it could cost you. Just something to bear in mind.
Obviously a laser printer is by far the more economical option for printing lots of black and white.
Anyway, I found that a Canon inkjet I used to have used a silly number of cartridges. I used to get cheap replacements from Ebuyer for about a pound each, which worked until the print head got clogged.0 -
Is there not an option in the print preferences to use black cartridge only for draft/black?
I've always preferred HP Printers...
No grayscale only - my old HP had black and white only. I've since found a tech forum in Australia that suggests Canon users print everything in colour as it uses less colour than grayscale printing a colour image. That would be hard to explain in the manual I guess so they don't bother:embarasse0 -
Get a Lexmark.
Actually, that's a joke. Don't. Seriously.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

The new kodaks are meant to be pretty good, if a little pricey. I know you can get decent HP onles (I use one for uni, and use compatible cartridges and don't have too much a problem to be honest - £6-7 a cartridge as I buy in bulk)** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
