Is there any driver out there who claims not to drive safely? But I'm sorry, based on the contents of your previous posts, you did not drive safely on this occassion.
7 years NC from start and a clean licence would say otherwise...but per say, I'm trying to paint a picture. I know I could have acted better but was not at fault for the actual collision. Would I really post on here asking for opinions if I knew I was at fault? I'm looking for what people think on what to be based on the information given, not to judge my driving ability.
Pew pew, I've not used/quoted the word stuff above...
Debating "right of way" would go against "driving without due care and attention". The situation would have been prevented if the lorry had paid as much attention.0 -
one of my mates is a truck driver, this sort of stuff happen to him a lot i think, but he doesn't care one bit because not much damage ever happens to his vehicle and he never claims and just deny's any liability when the TP claim.
I would just leave it alone to be honest.0 -
Sounds a bit unfair OP and if I was in your shoes I would be livid but as has been said you were filtering into his lane and for whatever reason he ddn't let you in or see you or felt he couldn't brake.
From what you say you have no witnesses so all you really need to decide is whether a claim would be cost effective or not.0 -
Whether or not you decide to claim on your insurance, you should stilkl report it to them and declare the incident when you next renew your policy. It always asks whether there have been any incidents whether or not a claim was made and if you do not mention it then you could render your insurance invalid. I have had an accident which was not my fault and I claimed against the other driver and it did not affect my premium at renewal or my no claims so it is better to be on the safe side. I don't feel able to give an opinion on those fault it was, not actually seeing it for myself.0

I was angry and dismayed at the time...but reflecting on it, I'll be enjoying Christmas with my family which is the most important thing.stars_bright wrote: »Whether or not you decide to claim on your insurance, you should stilkl report it to them and declare the incident when you next renew your policy. I read through Direct Lines T&C's and, although it doesn't state when it should be reported, I'm going to notify them tonight. Were you successful in your claim though?
Also, it's nice to read the last sentence. It was annoying no-one also stopped but hey ho!banger9365 wrote: »when did we have to start giving way to stupid poeple coming down slip roads, and then think a lorry can stop has fast has a car ,tut tut tut ,at least you walked away from it

Thanks for that productive post. I'm more grateful to be going home this Christmas rather than someone losing their job for their negligent driving. Everyone joining a motorway is now stupid. Genius.0 -
Fozzeh, whilst I sympathise with your situation I don't think you'd get very far with an insurance claim. At the end of the day, you are required to give way to traffic already on the motorway. Without any evidence that the driver of the truck was "letting you in" as you describe it, then an insurance company would see it as you manouvering in to the lane in which the truck was travelling - you didn't give way - you hit him - you are at fault.
What the truck driver did might not have been very smart, but without witnesses and assuming he tells a different story, then you don't have much of a case - despite how clear cut it would seem to you.0 -

I've been doing quite a bit of dual carriageway driving since September and the amount of people who do not safely merge onto the carrigeway is appalling. If they were on their driving tests most of them would fail.
They haven't a clue how to adjust their speed to match that of the cars already on it.
Hopeless and getting worse all the time.
Sounds as though it is the same on motorways.0 -
OMG!!! my hubby is a lorry driver and first off he does not have a CB so no chance of him and his buddies blocking anyone in.... and as for your other generalisation of lorry drivers.... !!!!!!... most lorry drivers are hard working professional's that have to stick to strick time and speed limits... give em a break... with out them 90% of thr stuff you buy wouldnt be in the store....
back off!!!!
I take it there is a post missing between this and the OP as the OP doesn't make a generalisation on lorry drivers?:huh:0
