Widening a loft hatch - cost?

Hi
Does anyone know the approximate cost of widening a loft hatch? We'd also be looking to put in some sort of ladder too. It's currently barely big enough to fit through, it's in a large bathroom but plenty of space to get up there, so would probably leave it in the bathroom but just widen etc.

All you need to do is cut out one ceiling joist to the width you want the new access to be, you then bridge two pieces of timber across between the next two joists, it should be possible to do this without damaging the ceiling or there are access kits available which have a wide rim around them to cover and ceiling damage, if using a kit you will need to size the opening to suit it.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

If you plan to do it yourself .... timing is everything
This week , its a touch cool! and by June , far too warm to work in the loft.
So book the second week in April.0 -
a couple of hours work for a chippy so maybe 100 quid plus the ladder cost.

Assuming you have enough head room for a loft ladder you are probably looking at iro £ 150 to get the whole job done including widening the hatchway but exclusive of the cost of the ladder and the replacement hatch you'll be needing ('cos the one thats there now will be too small).

We had a ladder installed by a the www.loftshop.co.uk it cost £170 for the ladder and installation, and if we had wanted the hatch extended I think they said another £100.. we really should of had the opening bigger as its difficult to squeeze a large suitcase in but it can be done with a bit of jiggery pokery:rotfl:#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thanks all for the advice.
It's not our current house, it's a house we're thinking of buying and I'm trying to add up all the costs - it needs new kitchen, heating, etc but these are all jobs we've done in our current house, never had the loft hatch issue though, we've already got a nice wide hatch.
Good to hear it's a couple of hundred as I thought it might have been more. It's good to know real prices too so that you don't get ripped off!
Thanks all!0
