Hi where is the cheapest/best value place to get insurance for very small amount of time? I have bought my wife a car and whilst picking it up need insurance just to drive it home and park it in the garage until we find the best deal for long term insurance on it. Thanks.

Google "one day car insurance" and you will get a selection of companies offering this.

if you have insurance currently on any car, you can call them and see if they would do a mirrored policy, i done this on my car and managed to get insured for 2 days for £8!!! So hopefully you have a policy running at the moment and they should give you the best price by far.

Ecarinsurance are also great but will cost around 30-50.

You can avoid paying for temporary insurance.

Take out a policy with RAC.

Get the car home.

Then cancel the policy. RAC allow you to cancel within 14 days without penalty or charge (as long as you haven't made a claim).

I believe that Aviva also provide a free 7 days worth of cover..the only catch is they also provide you with a quote for the year.

Although Aviva will let you cancel within 14 days it's not free if the cover has started.

They charge you for the days you have been under cover plus a cancellation fee of £52.50

Just quickly checked the Aviva site Quentin and it looks like the 7 day offer is free with no obligations to take out a further policy after the 7 days. It's on their site listed as Driveaway Insurance. Does look like it's more geared to new car purchases so not sure if that helps the OP or not.
