Can someone pls help me set up wireless network

Hi

I'm trying to set up a wireless network for my DD xmas laptop.
I'm on Virgin and have a wired router and a belkin wired router to my sons room. I've put the installation disk in but when it get to connect to internet light on the d-link wireless router i can't get it to work. What i'd like to do is stay wired myself and for my Son but have wireless for my Daughter. I've really no idea what i'm doing, could anyone help me please?

Thanks

Do any of your routers support wireless?
  • Oooh I'm not sure to be honest, i would think the virgin one would? but no idea about the belkin. How would i find out please?
  • did you have the yellow cable connected to your laptop .the disc should be straightforward to follow . just a thought is your laptop switched on for wireless.
  • Hello,

There isn't a yellow cable, just a blue one and going by the instructions on the disc i had to connect the blue cable to my ethernet connection? and yes the laptop is switched on for wireless, i think io should have had this sorted before now as I'm hopeless at this lol
  • could pc tools firewall stop the Internet button showing on the dlink router? that popped up when i plugged in the power ?

How many routers do you have, and what are the makes/models, and how are they connected. Setting up a network with multiple routers can be very tricky, many people struggle with just one.

Hang on a minute...you're on virgin, yes ?? Cable or phone line ADSL ?? if cable, you sound like you've got a cable modem feeding a belkin router (which may or may not have a wireless function), rather than a cable modem/router. Is this right ?? D-Link ADSL routers are pretty good and easy to set up, but knowing how you're trying to connect it would help.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • Do you actually have a wireless router? what is the make/model of your router?

Is it Virgin cable or ADSL that you have?

  • Hello,

I have a dlink dir-615 wireless router the virgin router is e08c013.00 and the belkin is a fsd5230-4. from the wall to the virgin router, then connected to the belkin.......i think i'm doomed if its tricky with just one!
  • Hi GunJack, yes i'm on virgin and phone line is cable too, I have no idea how i'm trying to connect, i'm quite ok on all things pc, but have never set up a wireless connection before and I'm totally lost, what do you guys think i should be setting it up like? I just know my son said he needs a wired connection for xbox live and i'd need to stay wired too
