Broken laptop

If you want the laptop repaired probably best getting a new screen at about £100+ maybe.0

^^^ as dav says....if your IT guys can confirm the lappy itself is working ok with one of their monitors, then the full top half change is usually a quicker and cheaper way to get it back up'n'running again..like I said, it cost me £23 for mini-Gun #1's, and took me less than an hour to do the repair. Just add the time it takes to find one on ebay and get it delivered

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

The screen is intact but the damage is done on the inside and the screen will need to be replaced.I don't have a monitor to connect it to as we have (had) 2 laptops. The screen looks as if it's smashed as there is a large black mass (presumably where the object hit) and what looks like loads of spiders webs running through, There are also loads of coloured lines running vertically down the screen. The screen is intact though and about 1/5th of the screen is the usual blue (and I can actually now see some of my desktop items in that bit)0 -
Thanks, it's a Dell inspiron 1520.
Not too bad. Good second hand screens are £50, a new one £89 from Analogic on Ebay and they are my preffered supplier of panels. They're not massively difficult to do but it requires confidence to seperate the surround from the lid. This is complicated by the fact that Dell use some double sided tape along the bottom edge. I charge an hour labour to change them and whoever you take it to shouldn't charge you more than £120 all in to do it.
You will have only damaged the screen, nothing else. Its quite surprising just how badly they can be damaged and still not affect the rest of the computer. Basically, unless they've got water ingress, there's no problem and you just need to change the screen.0 -
could try http://www.lcds4less.com/ I bought a replacement screen for a toshiba satellite from here and it was about £60 for a new one including postage from the US - The same screen from the UK would have cost about twice the price. It also arrived within a week of ordering.
If you do decide to replace the screen - be very careful when disconnecting the wiring from the backlight inverter (looks like a long thin circuit board usually sitting below the screen) they can be very sensitive to being replugged into a new screen.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0
