Littlelady, you have been reliably informed.

In fact, on the registration document, you will find the statement "The registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner".

If the person who paid for it was doing so with the intention of gifting or lending the money to the intended owner then the owner will be that other person. The registration document and the fact that you have possession of the vehicle are both together enough to prove ownership.

Anyone who allows another person to become RK & who wants to retain ownership of the vehicle had better have a contract drawn up between the two people which makes this clear.
