they will come round and make sure they can take it on to contract IE ensure they can still get parts for your boiler and to also check there are no faults already on the system oh and maybe try and sell you a powerflush they are behind target on them so no doubt they will reccomend one for u.

    Agree with the above.

The BG contract is only confirmed after they have checked it is all in working order, and your boiler is not ancient.

It does seem that it is common practice to say a powerflush is needed, at a cost of several hundred pounds.

A powerflush cleans out the 'sludge' that can block up the system.

Let us know what happens please.

blimey!!!! i do want them to check my radiators and some dont warm up one one side eventhough my partner had bled them
  • Well they will class that as an existing fault as your radiators are not heating up correctly which you should have told the agent at point of sale. ( This avoids wasting your time and BG's)

You may find if your have a fault with them before your first visit they will refuse to do the repair.

ps a sludge build up will cause cold parts on a radiator so you may well need a powerflush.

  • I would not mention any pre-existing issues initially. When the BG guy comes around for a service or an initial check they will just measure the gas flow going through your boiler spend 10 mins filling a form on their small laptop then go home, the guy who did my service said literally this will take 10 mins when he walked in.

I had a BG engineer last week, the guy did not seem too bright, wasn't able to answer my questions in a technical manner, don't know if he was a full Corgi engineer who would know how to fit a whole CH system or if hes someone who was trained by BG on how to only balance radiators and increase the pressure in a sealed system.

Homecare is worth having as break down cover, i.e your cylinder springs a leak, they will come replace it.. and that saves you the costs of replacing that.

I would also recommend getting the Homecare 300 as this covers plumbing, so blocked sinks, toilets, toilets not flushing. (plumbing is done by a 3rd party company called dynarode or something)

You will get problems if your boiler is really old and it breaks down, for example BG cannot get the parts to fix it but you can use google and can easily find the part, BG will refuse to fix and say you must buy a new boiler xD...

the plumbing and drainage is done by dyno rod be very careful with the added extra of plumbing and drains cover as there is many things it does not cover main 2 are taps and showers the drains cover is only up to £1000 in one hit so if you have a collapsed drain they will just about dig up your front garden for that.
the guy who came to you would have been corgi now the gas safe register as all there engineers have to be same as anyone working on a gas appliance.

Yes its a sad truth, what should be giving customers best advice on the condition of their system has now become just a sales pitch. Fernox do a water sample kit that you can send to their labs. They provide a report on the condition of the water and if it will benifit from a treatment. It's third party non bias.

But you may still have sludge in the system caused by hard water.

Most people dont think about insurance for their boiler until something is not right like a radiator not heating up then sign up to a plan. BG do the first inspection for that reason as well as making sure they can cover the boiler for parts etc.
