Help with silent calls from unrecognised numbers

Please can anyone give me any advice to stop silent calls from unrecognised numbers? I have rung my phone company (Sky), but they say they can't do anything as the numbers are unrecognised, and always different. For example I get numbers showing like 5153695838 and 7813821921. I have been a member of the TPS for years, but they say they can't do anything to stop silent calls. These calls are driving me mad, and I can't seem to find any way to trace the numbers, or stop them, so any advice would be gratefully received.

They appear to be numbers in the states. Unfortunately you can't do anything to get rid of them.
I got a call for a while from US numbers so I learnt not to pick up the phone unless I recognised the number - I have caller display. They took about a year to stop.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
Wasn't there something recently similar to this where companies were using computers to mass cold call? So they would use the computers to dial say 50 numbers at once, and the first 10 or so who picked up got a recorded sales message and everyone picking up after them just got silence.0

I've just had a call from both these numbers - we have had a few missed calls from this number and not really bothered with it however I am off work today and answered it.
There was a very Indian sounding man on the other end advising that he was calling from Bradford (although I feel that the line should have been a bit clearer if he was). He knew my surname and advised me that I was getting error messages on my computer and I needed to fix this. I tried to stop him talking but he carried on, even though I couldn't understand him as the line was crackly. In the end I hung up without revealing anything. The phone immediately rang again with the 7813 number but I didn't answer it the second time. We have recently purchased a laptop so think its a bit strange that these calls have only started since the purchase.
Hope this helps!0 -
A clue maybe. Where did you get the lap top? I would not blame the company directly, but perhaps there is an insider getting info out to scammers?I've just had a call from both these numbers - we have had a few missed calls from this number and not really bothered with it however I am off work today and answered it.

Yeah, right.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Others have reported these numbers, just google the numbers.

example:
They left a voice mail we don't think they meant to. First 30 seconds is background noise, next minute is a sales pitch to someone else (only hear one side of the call). They ask to talk to the business owner and offer $250k in working capital to "help" the business.

Well "where in the world" would you buy a laptop from? We're going to investigate this I think and make the company aware. Has anyone else getting these calls recently purchased a PC/laptop from the same place?0 -
Thanks for all the advice. If anyone ever picks up the phone I'll gladly tell them get lost, especially since they keep waking me up. Actually I have just got a new laptop, my old one was faulty, and got a new one under warranty. It was from John Lewis, so can't imagine they they sold my details to another company, but you never know!0
