Charged for extra item at Tesco

I'm not sure if this is the best forum for my post -- I'm new here -- so please point me to the right forum if this is the wrong one!

I went shopping late this afternoon, and bought some of the Listerine mouthwash on the 2 for £5 offer. I bought 2 bottles, to get the discount.

I got the offer applied and had £1.40 knocked off my receipt, but I didn't notice until I got home that the checkout assistant had put the mouthwash through 3 times in total instead of twice.

Does anyone know if I'm likely to be able to get a refund on the 3rd bottle when the store re-opens tomorrow?

  • MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
  • Thank you for the replies (and to the mod for putting my query in the right section).

I'll pop in tomorrow and see what they say. I know it wouldn't have been a problem to get the refund had I noticed before leaving the store -- I just have no idea how they treat this kind of thing after you've left the store.

Personally I'd be expecting a double refund - I know some CAs bend the interpretation to suit themselves but you've clearly been overcharged and a DD refund is only fair.

  • I got my money back, with no hassle at all. Wish I'd thought to check here again before leaving, as I wasn't aware of the double-the-difference thing, but I'm happy I got the refund I did.

How did you do it? My wife had the same thing happen last night- 3 items when she bought 2.

Problem is that she went to a Tesco 11 miles away.

I just went to the customer services desk and explained -- no questions at all, other than to clarify exactly which product it was. I use the store a lot though, so it's possible she'd seen me around before and that helped, although I didn't recognise her. Good luck with getting your refund!
