Really Weird Printer problem.

Hi All.

I am tearing my hair out here.

I have a Canon Pixma 760 multifunction printer. (Excellent machine)

The Black (3 eBK ) ran out so I changed it. tried cleaning - DEEP cleaning - Cleaning printing - cleaning ---You get my drift. No good.

Ok

got another one sent but meanwhile shook the old one and replaced it - Working fine.

New one arrived - EXACTLY the SAME problem.

Put old one back (Gave it even MORE of a shake - no probs).

Ordered elsewhere and waited.

Ink expired so robbed a later Canon MP 810 (Same cartridge but with chip) worked OK.

New ones(2) arrived - installed - no good more cleaning, printing, cleaning Etc. STILL no good.

I have only used compatibles in the 4 years of ownership and never a problem before other than the usual having to clean heads a couple of times after installation of new ink.

I am pretty certain that if I were to refill the working cartridges that I would be able to get round this issue but I prefer not to.

The only thing that I can think of is that there is a blockage. I think (Please correct me if I am wrong) that the cartridge opening sits on a fine gauze which allows the ink to flow into the head and, as this is the main cartridge, that over time there may be a build up on this gauze and I think cleaning this might work.

What would I use - Petrol, Soap, acetate, meths, white spirit? - Which.

Or can you suggest any other likely cause?

Presently, I am having to copy everything to Word, colour it dark blue and THEN I can print.

BTW YES I have removed the strip from on top of cartridge.:)

I even blew down it to force a little ink out.

Thanks for reading.

Common problem with ink-jet printers if they are only used occasionally is the ink in the head dries up and although you try new cartridges there is no ink flow.

I had exactly the same problem with my Canon printer after a few years, no amount of head cleaning will clear it I ended up fitting a new print head, as yours is four years old you will probably find the best and more permanent solution is to fit a new print head, you can try print head cleaning fluid but in my experience it is not very successful does not last long and it can be very messy.

Hi Thanks for the replies so far.

This printer is used almost daily so it wont be through lack of use.

Can ANYONE suggest why the old ones work but NOT the new ones?

Could be that after 4 years the print-head could be shot but the printing is perfect.

CAJEF, was a print head very hard to fit?

I have found that Canon printers don't come apart that easily as they tend to use plastic push-fits rather than screws and I have never replaced a print-head before.

Very easy, there is a grey plastic assembly directly above the cartridges with a lever that comes down to the right of the cartridges, remove all the cartridges lift the lever up which releases the head assembly and it just lifts out, it is advisable to take it out even if you decide to clean it otherwise you will get pools of cleaner and ink in the bottom of the printer.
