Sime Boiler help!

Options
Hi,

I need help!

Our boiler has a little leak in it, which is fine, and the engineer has identified the leak (diverter valve) and will fix it.

But it is also losing pressure (lots - it goes to 0.2). However the leak is only small. Anyway, it still opeartes perfectly fine, nice hot water and boiling radiators. Also, despite the pressue being 0.2-0 when off, it rises quite quickly to normal 1.0-1.5 when in operation...

I think the leak is just one problem, and there must be another (ie expansion chamber needs filling up?)

I dont understand why it works fine (i thought they cut off on low pressure) and also why it it goes up so much from 0 to 1.5 when off, which is normal operating pressure? Can it all be down to that leak?

If I do top it up to say 1 bar when its off, then when it comes on, it goes up to 3bar quickly and starts releasing through the sec valve? So I dont fill it up.

Thanks!!

  • So why not get the RGI who is going to fix your boiler to check it all out?
It could of course be you are a wind up merchant!

Funny I thought that when I read the OPs post earlier so I thought I'd keep me trap shut but seeing as you raise it.

It would be quite wrong to give advice on here which might very well conflict with what he engineer finds when he gets there. He'll not be pleased at all if he says its "X" and you then say well so-an-so on MSE said it was "Y so you are wrong". If that were me I'd just walk away and leave you to it TBH.

He'll be able to see the problem.. We can't.

Saucer of milk for capita guy please! :D

    Cheers

  • I will ask him and I would not go against what he says, just because I read it on here.

He cant come back til Tuesday, so I was just wondering in the meantime if you had any ideas, that's all...

I was also curious as to how it worked fine despite the low pressue when off...
  • I hate to say this but our boiler was losing pressure and overflowing outside, and they guy who fixed it ordered a wrong part first, then was just about to order a second part when I decided to phone Sime. The guy who was fixing it had told me Sime had closed, but it turned out not to be true either. Anyway, I called Sime, then they gave me a number of an engineer. He was too far from me but kindly advised on the problem. He said he'd seen it before and knew what part I needed. He was very certain about it. It was a similarly named part to what my gas engineer suggested, but one was inside something in the boiler. This was a while ago, so sorry for being vague and not knowing the parts.

Anyway, I told my engineer who was happy to take the advice. I told him I could order the part and asked if he could fit it. He had no issues with that.

All I am really trying to say is that different boilers have slightly different faults and the engineers probably don't know everything about each one. I think it's probably best to get a Sime expert if possible.

I do hope all goes well though and that it is what your engineer thinks it is.
