Replacing lock on metal security door/gate

I have a metal security door (burglar door) that I dont have the key for. I tried drilling through the welds holding the lock in with no joy. It is a lever type deadlock.
What sort of money am I looking at getting a locksmith in to replace the key, or indeed removing the lock?
Seems a shame not to utilise this extra security option.
Cheers

This is the type of door/gate:

The welds aren't sticking out they're flush, I'll try to get a pic up. I do like your thinking. Cheers

  • As i'm unable to remove the lock, has anyone had any Locksmiths "impression" a new key for them, what did they charge and was a call out fee charged?

    She should have shopped around;)

It's hard to say how much they will charge you without looking at it but dont expect much change out of £100 for one fitting as there are not many that can fit into steel. I really dont know why gate makers weld them in, it makes it a really hard job to change them.

    Re: Deadlock in metal gate.
Yes, this may be possible depending on what type of lock it is. We would really need to see what we are dealing with before we could give a definite price but it would be between £100 to £150.
We would be happy to take a look at no cost.

used to have a lot of these in south africa, general rule was the locks were welded in (for security) grinder for £20 is from tesco etc would get it out getting a new lock in and welding is going to be the difficult bit to do DIY unless you know someoen with the tools that will do it for some beer tokens.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
