I have to speak out as I never when my daughter got a credit card, if you have one you are making a conscious decision to live in debt when there's no need....
She never said till she broke down one day and tearfully told me she'd got into 10k of debt.........

Not all debt is bad, and those who're sensible and responsible for their own actions will use credit cards as a good tool. Those who aren't, won't.
  • The OP is an adult and responsible for her own actions. As she's on here, I doubt she's daft enough to go mental with it.

A lot of people are on here (take a look at the Debt Free Wannabe board) because they HAVE gone mental with it (credit card).

    Christmas init

The amount of people that actually live by borrowing just for xmas, paying it back over the year and starting again the following chistmas is unbelievable (In some cases just getting into bigger and bigger debt)

And people wonder why we're in such a world wide credit crisis

It's not just at Christmas that people get into debt.

Im not for one second saying it is. Just that xmas is by far the biggest reason to get into debt (Bit of a daft reason i think, but whatever)

Not neccesarily, I have several cards and pay them off each month so don't pay interest.

On a couple of occassions I've used them to finance large purchase and spread the payments over two or three months in which case they're a fairly cheap form of credit.

My sister bought a car on a card and just swapped the debt to a new interest free card every six months until it was paid off.

It's up to the individual how they use credit cards. Some people don't have the self control, other people do.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

Credit cards are great for people who know how they work and have the means to pay off the balance when the bill comes in.

Problems arise when people see something they want (as opposed to need), don't have the cash to pay for it and stick it on a credit card anyway.
Problems also arise when circumstances change and maybe someone is made redundant or has their hours cut and paying off a credit card becomes hard.
