Blimey we are going to need a large winners podium in July 2012! Can we all welcome clefairy_5, spethmeister, ulm2005 and mssloan to the Olympic Team! :D

In answer to a couple of queries - if I can have exact amounts by January 1st that would be useful BUT if you just want a chunk to clear and that is an exact amount (say £5,000) then that is equally fine as well ;)

Please let me know amounts paid on this thread (if I seem to miss a payment let me know in a PM!)

Meanwhile enjoy Christmas and get ready for the debt busting marathon to commence!

  • Ok, so good and bad news today. The good is that I paid off £30 today. The bad is that £20 got added on to the debt. At least it's £10 paid off overall I suppose

So my total is in my signature if you could update it please Dragon?

Oh, and I won't be around for a few days so Happy Christmas everyone. Hope it's a good one! :rudolf:

  • glad to see so many people joining in! I'm feeling very motivated now!

Hope everyone has a great xmas x
  • Funnily enough, I posted on the board some months ago that I would set myself a target of being debt free (excluding mortgage) by the 2012 Olympics start date. That target may be beyond me but I'm going to give it my best shot. It's unclear how much I would need to actually pay to become debt free though as I have a number of debts all with varying interest rates. Fortunately, most of the money I owe is at a fixed rate and a reasonable deal by today's standards (LOB credit card deals and personal loans). Also, I will be getting a big tax bill in the near future and I have not yet calculated it.

On the basis that "if I aim for the stars I might get as far as the moon", I am aiming to throw £60k at my debts (excluding mortgage) between 1/1/10 and the Olympic start. There will be days that I only pay 1p and days where I pay two or three hundred pounds. I'm self-employed so my income is variable. I don't do anything special particularly but I know how to graft like a slave if need be. I also have learned (with the help of MSE) to be as tight as a duck's rear end with my money.
My goal is to throw 60k at my debts without new borrowing. More realistically, I probably will need to use a card from time to time to repair/service my work van. Also, I will need to borrow some (if available) to contribute to paying the taxman.
Although £60k may not clear everything once interest gets added on, it will go a long way towards it.
But first, I'm going to have a fun week till the end of the year. I've got several invites but I will be working too between Xmas and new year.
£60k for me then. I will need to get more new work in and sell on some of the older stuff that doesn't pay so well I think (no, I'm not a debt collector :D )

Paul you really will deserve the title of a gold medallist for that debt busting! (oh and I am glad I am not the only one that thought of the Olympics as a good cut off point!)

I have added you to the starting line list (runmichellerun has taken off already :D) - good luck with this and I look forward to seeing your percentages going up in leaps and bounds!
