HELP!Strange language instead of English on my pc!

When I look at items on ebay, most of the page will be in English  but portions  under "Description" are in a strange language. Some lines will be in English and others not!
I have tried to `copy` and `paste` it here to give you an example..When I do that it prints it in English, not in the strange letters I `copied`. It only occurs on ebay.All other internet sites are just fine.
I have running  on my pc., all the time , Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, Zone alarm. I have also run these programmes to clear any virus, trojan etc. I can see nothing obvious on my pc causing this.
Now found that is not another language, but another FONT... It is Lotus WP Int A !!!
I would appreciate any help. I will be happy to provide further imformation if you need it .

I also get problems with emails containing various chatacter sets from particular people (usually in USA or Australia.Japan etc).

In Netscape browser, under the view menu go to encoding and select one of the Western ones.

In email, you would go to View | Character set and do the same thing.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, That is set at "Western European" ,So unless I misunderstood you,That does not solve my problem. But I appreciate You trying, Regards Linda.

Also which browser and version are you using?
Which Windows version?

Thank you for not  giving up on me.
I have windows 98 SE,  Internet explorer version 6.0.2800.1106  .I have a number of updates also. I can let you know which if you wish.
A friend who helps me with my pc. and is my mentor has suggested that it could be one of the updates that are causing my problem. Do you think removing these is worth trying? If so how, please?Or do you think that removing my version 6 and going back to version 5 would be something to try? Again, if so, please, how would I do this?
I realise to that I could simply go back with my ghost programme to when I did not have this problem. Would that be simpler for you,or are you happy to see if this can be solved some other way?I must admit I am intrigued by this puzzle and would be interested to find the answer, but obviously what really matters is the solution,and if that is doing a "ghost" then that`s fine.

erm.. I doubt it's one of the service packs but it's worth a try.. go to add or remove programs.. and delete one of them.. run ie and see if it works.. then delete another.. you can reinstall them if you go to windows update..

On that second URL what you have printed in English is ALL in the lotus gibberish.I have removed all cookies, which I do regularly, and again run spybot.
This problem started about 1 week ago.Also, today for the first time I saw this lotus FONT somewhere else. I was running the Norton Win Dr. ,went to `repair` and saw on the bar (title bar? `Details`) beside the icon of a pc and a spanner wording in the lotus Font.
Thus I now wonder if it is not just a problem on the internet, but more!

Okay - not sure why this should have happened. Anyway there are two things that you can do about it.

Firstly you can change the font settings from within Internet Explorer and secondly, you can archive the font (move it to another directory) so that your PC cannot use it.

Rather than me waffle on for ages have a look at the following:

and then if that doesn't fix it then archive the font using ( I seem to recall that you should be able to do this in Win 98 too )

Hi Mister T2, Thank you once again for your help.(Sorry I have not replied sooner, I have been away for a few days.)
You have solved the problem of gibberish on the internet for me!!!!!! GREAT!!!! I went to the microsoft site you gave and followed their instructions. Then went on the above ebay sites and all was in English. Clever you.
Went to the second site and tried to carry out their instructions.However,the font that is causing my problem cannot be deleted.I use windows Commander, have moved the font to a temporary site. When I try to delete I get an error message saying I need to remove its protection. Thus I gather that that font programme is running somewhere and I cannot remove it while running (To experiment I was able to copy and delete another font NO PROBLEM, then restored it )So we (Or rather YOU) are nearly there. Any suggestions please, to overcome this. Again, if not, then no worry as thanks to you the problem has shrunk. MANY MANY THANKS, ONCE AGAIN REGARDS, LINDA
