I now have 2 phone lines??

We got Virgin tv and phone in on Friday, all is fine but we have 2 phone lines, one downstairs and one up, we have a new number and this has been connected dowstairs, but upstairs is still the old tiscali number and where the computer is plugged in. Should Ihave told Virgin about upstairs or should it have changd over anyway? or does it need additional cabling? surely they would have informed tiscali they were tsking over as the phone line was tiscali and is going back to BT.
Has anybody else had any experience of this?

It's your responsibility to tell Tiscally, not VM.The cable phoneline is entirely different than your old Tiscally/BT one &,if you got cable installed & NOT VM National, then you are cannot use ADSL BBand on a Cable phoneline.
surely they would have informed tiscali they were tsking over as the phone line was tiscali and is going back to BT.
Is BT taking over the line or VM? Or is it being turned off?
If you have had a new Cable phone installed (with new CTE5 master) downstairs,VM CANNOT take over the Tiscally/BT phone upstairs,This belongs to BT & is not/cannot be connected to Cable. You can use it for Virgin National however.

If it's Virgin cable, then no you would'nt.Cable works entirely differently.(And because you got a new phoneline installed I'm guessing it is)
As I said, you cannot use any ADSL BBand on a cable line.
Did the installers fit a box on the outside of the house?Pull a new cable up to the house or was it already in.
Where the TV is,do you have one of these boxes?(or similar, only photo I could find)

If you have this, then it's deffo Cable service you have.
