in Credit cards
Hi All,
Have posted b4 but got no replies/advice - would anyone out there be able to help?
Had wrong interest rate charged to my card for about 2 yrs which has now been changed to the right one.
I still have a balance on the card and pay off as much as i can regularly each month (around £150 )
I am wondering if I am entitled to any money back (taken off current balance would be nice) as I have realised i was charged Double the interest i should of been paying so any cash i paid towards my account was less than what should have been coming off my total balance.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.x

How can you prove what you say?
Do you have documentation showing what the original interest rate should be and something to confirm that they were not going to increase it for you?
If you had a life of balance transfer perhaps you could advise us whether you were ever late in paying or missed a payment which would have invalidated any offer.0 -
Does the card company agree you were charged the wrong amount?
Have you asked them to fix it?
What have they said?
If you can prove it then yes you should be able to get the money back, one way or another, but the first step is to ask them for a refund.
Have you done that?0 -
Thankyou for the replies - I applied for this card as I am an employee of a well know high street store and i was pursuaded to apply as i would have 0% for 6 months and then an employee rate which should have been applied. I assumed it had been and have not missed any payments or been late.
it was only during a discussion with one of my collegues who promote the card that she mentioned i should check my interest rate as it should of been 9.9% not 18.9% which i had been charged since my interest free period finished.
My store details / employee details were taken when i applied so i assumed the promise of staff rates would be correct. I rang to tell the card issuer who aggreed i was on the wrong rate and said they would change it. They never did it at first and i was charged another month at the higher rate.
After calling again it was eventually changed and lowered but when I asked if i am entitled to some of the money back/ taken off my balance I was told that they couldn't say yes or no and that they would be looking into the details for me.
Again i had to call where i was told ''my team'' were not at the desk at the moment but that a mesage would be left on the desk for someone to call me as a matter of urgency - that was over a month ago!
I just want some idea of where I stand so I know what to say when i next call.
Any Advice very much appreciated.0 -
I would either telephone and lodge a formal complaint asking for the excess interest to be refunded or do it via letter0

Yes I agree write a formal letter of complaint.0

Make sure you follow the formal complaints procedure (it's important to write to the correct department).
I would also suggest spending 75p on recorded delivery so that they know that you know it's been delivered.0
